When we are in pharmaceutical workshop, what we can see might not be mounting pile of drugs but all kinds of complex, high-end and precise equipment. A pharmaceutical machine can cost tens of thousands dollars and even millions.
So, how to maintain these equipment become an inevitable top topic for pharmaceutical industry. GMPs of different states all require pharmaceutical companies to work out detailed maintenance schedule for their machines.
In general, there are four strategies of how to maintain the pharmaceutical equipment.
1) Stopping using when they wear out: these parts and equipment are used just like household bulbs. They are not of high price and not precise and we can discard them when they are broken.
2) Regular changing: some parts and equipment are critical for drugs production and we need to change them regularly, such as gasket. It is too late to change it when it wears out.
3) Regular checking: regular checking should be carried out for instruments, lubrication oil and so on. If there is any problem, deal with it in time. It should be noted that flexible and clear checking indexes are also needed.
4) Redesigning: when regular changing and regular checking don’t work, we must redesign these parts and equipment. Generally, parts and equipment break down frequently because they are used beyond proper production conditions, such as working under high pressure or strong corrosion.
