A coincidence is that this year National Day and Mid Autumn Festival in China fall on the same day, August 15th in Chinese lunar calendar or October, 1st in solar calendar. By the way, let me have some brief introduction to Mid Autumn Festival. In fact, many countries celebrate their own National Day on different date. But different to the National Day, Mid Autumn Festival is mainly celebrated in China, some other Asian countries and Asian communities all over the world on the same day, the 15th of the 8th lunar month.
For us, Mid Autumn Festive is closely related to ancient legends. It was said that in ancient time, there were 10 suns hanging on the sky, which led to severe drought so that people had no way of making a living. In this case, Hou Yi, a brave shooter, shot down nine suns to save people from disaster. He was rewarded the elixir of immortality. However, on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, Hou Yi went out for hunting and someone sneaked into his home and forced Chang E, Hou Yi’s wife, to hand over the pill. Unhelpfully, Chang E ate the pill and flew away to the moon. In the hope of reunion, Hou Yi presented moon cakes on the fifteenth of the the eighth lunar month every year since then. His activity spread out and as time flew away, it became a custom. Although Hou Yi and Chang E are simply characters in a myth, Mid Autumn Festive still becomes one of the four traditional festivals in China currently. 
When it comes to Mid Autumn Festival, moon cake must be another unavoidable topic. Traditional moon cakes usually enfold either mixed nuts or red bean paste. And now, as the moon cake production techniques are improved, not only the filling, but also the pie crust, becomes bountiful and package also becomes more exquisite. For the foodies, those moon cakes must be of great allure :)
All in all, on the festival, we can reunite with our families and friends, eat moon cakes and admire the moon together. It might be the ancient people’s wise to create such a festival for their reunion after long time and now it gives us a chance to show our cherish to our families and friends.
